EKITI AND OSUN GOVERNORSHIP ELECTIONS RESULT PORTAL WERE ATTACKED BY ASIAN HACKERS

During the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, our election results portal was attacked by Asian hackers

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission ((NEC), its result viewing (IReV) portal has been attacked by hackers all over the world.

INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu stated this while delivering the keynote address at a stakeholders' conference on election result management on Friday in Abuja.

YIAGA Africa, a civil society organization (CSO), organized the conference to launch the election result analysis dashboard (ERAD) report agenda. According to Yakubu, the commission has recorded several attempts to hack the result viewing portal's cyber security system.

"Another technical concern for us is the repeated attempts to breach our portal's cyber security system," he said. Several cyberattacks on the portal were reported by our engineers during the governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun, with some coming from as far away as Asia. I'm relieved to report that they all failed.

While we are confident in the security solutions we have implemented for IReV and our entire web presence, we must remain vigilant and continue to fortify our defenses. We have charged our engineers with doing everything possible to secure the IReV and all of our web resources."
