MORE NIGERIAN EMPLOYEES ARE NEEDED IN QATAR, SAYS THE ENVOY
The Qatari government claims that it wants to increase the number of Nigerians working there.
This was said by Chris Ngige, minister of labor and employment, when Ahmad AL-Horr, chargé d'affaires of the Qatari embassy in Nigeria, met with him on Friday, August 26, in Abuja.
He claims that "We are processing the bilateral agreement between the governments of Qatar and Nigeria about the rules governing the hiring of migrant workers from Nigeria in the State of Qatar.
Because there aren't many Nigerian workers in Qatar, we require a relationship with the labor ministry. We desire more Nigerian laborers in our nation."
Ngige said that his government was eager to formalize the bilateral labor migration agreement between Nigeria and Qatar.
He criticized the alarmingly high percentage of unemployment in Africa. He claims that with a 34 percent unemployment rate in Nigeria, youth make up around 60 percent of the population.
"If you factor in underemployment, the number will be close to 40%, which is also extremely concerning. Because of this, our nation is eager to formally establish a labor migration agreement with you.
One of the places where persons looking for work may end up is in your country. You've even stated again that there aren't many Nigerian foreign workers in your area, he said.
