ARMY DISCHARGES SOLDIERS CHARGED WITH GONI AISAMI'S MURDER
The 241 RECCE Battalion Nguru, where the soldiers were stationed, hosted an occasion where the dismissal of the men was announced.
The two soldiers John Gabriel and Gideon Adamu, who were accused of killing renowned Yobe Islamic cleric Goni Aisami, were discharged from the Nigerian Army on Saturday.
The 241 RECCE Battalion Nguru, where the soldiers were stationed, hosted an occasion where the dismissal of the men was announced.
The soldiers' dismissal signaled the start of their civil trial. They'll be handed back over to the police so they can be investigated for their claimed offense.
In an effort to steal Mr. Aisami's automobile on August 19, 2022, Mr. Gabriel admitted to killing him. He had been picked up by the cleric from a military checkpoint where he was posted.
The soldiers' behavior did not represent the image of the Nigerian Armed Forces, according to Lieutenant Colonel Sabo, the acting general commanding officer of 241 RECCE Battalion 10.
He stated that the Sector II headquarters would deliver the troops to the police in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, for civil prosecution of the army.
Greetings, gentlemen. The 241 RECCE Battalion Nugu is happy to have you as a member. I'm the acting commanding general officer, Lt. Col. 10 Sabo.
You are all aware of what occurred a week ago when members of our unit's personnel went out to perpetrate atrocities and were detained by Nigerian police.
"We are grateful to Allah Ta'ala for enabling us to fulfill our obligations. Initiating a military police inquiry was the first step in what we did, and the report provided us the freedom to punish them in accordance with the relevant portions of the Armed Forces legislation.
"They have now been formally discharged from the Nigerian Army regiment. We are returning them to the sector office in Damaturu, where they will be formally turned over to the Nigeria Police to face civil charges.
