LAGOS AIRPORT CLEANER WHO RUNS A NARCOTICS GANG IS CAPTURED BY NDLEA
A cleaner at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, Ohiagu, who is purportedly the boss of a drug gang operating out of the airport's international terminal, has been detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
This was said in a statement made on Sunday in Abuja by Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA.
According to Babafemi, the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday when an intended passenger on an Air Peace trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was detained.
According to him, Obinna Osita, the passenger, was detained with three bags, two of which had eight blocks of cannabis sativa, totaling 4.25kg, that were stowed away in crayfish, garri, and cassava products.
He added that while agents were pursuing one suspect, another member of the airport syndicate who collaborated with Ohiagu had also been detained.
Investigations showed that Obinna, a 42-year-old native of Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra, was hired by a drug dealer in Dubai to traffic the substances.
Likewise, they hired Ohiagu, a 34-year-old airport janitor from Imo's Orlu West Local Government Area, to open up a path for the trafficker to pass through unhindered.
On Monday, August 15, they were "used to disguise skunk for export to Dubai, UAE through the NAHCO export yard," he claimed.
A freight agent had previously been detained in relation to the seizure, according to Babafemi, and more inquiries were still being conducted.
