Brewers clinch first NL postseason berth with historic 20-0 shutout of Reds...

The Milwaukee Brewers became the first NL team to punch their Postseason ticket after blanking the Cincinnati Reds 20-0 on Friday.

The Brewers also reached the 20-run mark earlier this year, scoring 22 runs in a win over Seattle on August 18.

Eight of Milwaukee’s nine starters finished with multiple hits, with Cooper Pratt the only exception after recording one.

Jackson Chourio, William Contreras and Bryce Turang set the tone, combining to go 9-for-14 with two homers, eight runs and 12 RBI.

Milwaukee owns baseball’s best record at 93-56 and is the only club with 50+ home wins, going 52-25 at home.

Surprisingly, they rank near the bottom in home runs with 141 only Cleveland’s 139 are fewer. But they lead MLB in hits with 1,303, are tied for fourth in doubles with 259, and rank second in runs with 762. Their .259 average is second in the NL, just behind the AL-leading Rays at .260, and they also sit fourth with 143 stolen bases.

On the mound, Milwaukee ranks second in strikeouts with 1,414 and second in team ERA at 3.53, trailing only the Yankees’ 3.20.

Milwaukee has reached the playoffs in eight of nine seasons and posted at least 90 wins in six of them, excluding the COVID-shortened year.
