Atletico Madrid bounce back with win at Real Sociedad to climb to fourth 

Atletico Madrid extend record run to 14 as they hammer 10-man Real Sociedad. Simeone's subs pay off as Atletico score 3 late goals to sink Sociedad.

The first half-hour was tight, with Atletico shading it. Lee Kang-In dragged a good chance wide, and Morten Hjulmand then headed over from close range.  

 

Without Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth up front, Atletico missed a focal point in attack. Sociedad came closest to scoring when Luka Sucic blazed over at the back post.  

Buoyed by that, Matarazzo’s side pressed again before half-time. Sergio Gomez’s free-kick forced a sharp save from Jan Oblak.  

The second half began cagey until Simeone made a triple change after 60 minutes. David, Cardoso and Koke entered, and Grimaldo almost broke the deadlock but saw his effort pushed away by Remiro.

Despite losing 5 of their last 10 in all competitions, Atletico showed no fear of the counter and pushed on. Cardoso went close with a long-range drive as the final 20 minutes approached.  

Atletico continued to create. David and Hjulmand both threatened before the breakthrough arrived in the 82nd minute, with Ochieng adjudged to have handled inside the area.

Grimaldo stepped up and coolly converted from the spot for his first Atleti goal. Sociedad attempted a late response, but Atletico sealed it with two quick strikes at the end.

David made it 2-0 with a composed finish from Grimaldo’s assist, before Giuliano Simeone raced through and fired home on the counter. The win moved Atletico to fourth in the early standings.
