Joao Pedro has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August after an outstanding start to the season with Chelsea.
The forward leads the league with four goal involvements so far. Chelsea beat Fulham and Brighton in August before losing to Arsenal last weekend.
This is the first time the 24-year-old has won the award. He is also the first Chelsea player to claim it since teammate Cole Palmer in September 2024.
Pedro becomes the seventh Brazilian to win Player of the Month, following Juninho, Edu, David Luiz, Lucas Moura, Rodrigo Muniz and Igor Thiago.
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti left Pedro out of the World Cup squad over the summer. But after his strong start under Xabi Alonso, he has been recalled for Brazil’s upcoming friendlies against Australia and India during the international break.
Meanwhile, Manchester United striker Matheus Cunha is among those to miss out after a dip in form. That’s in contrast to Pedro, who has been relentless in attack alongside Cole Palmer and summer signing Morgan Rogers.
Rogers opened the scoring against Arsenal last weekend before Chelsea went on to lose 2-1. The trio will now look to carry that form into tomorrow’s game against newly promoted Hull City, with the Tigers having made a bright start to the Premier League season.
