EPL: Liverpool’s Attack Falters Again In Draw With Fulham

Resilient Fulham earn first point of season in draw at Anfield 
 

Pressure builds on Iraola as Liverpool stutter to draw with Fulham. Lacklustre Liverpool held 0-0 by Fulham as Anfield winless run stretches to four.

Liverpool were held to a dull 0-0 draw at home by Fulham. The Cottagers picked up their first Premier League point of the season, and the result extended the Reds’ run without a league win at Anfield to four games.

Pressure is building on Liverpool under Andoni Iraola, but they started brightly against Fulham. Inside the first 10 minutes, Ryan Gravenberch played in in-form Alexander Isak and he dragged a left-footed shot just wide with the goal in sight.

Despite Liverpool’s strong start, Fulham came closest to scoring first. The visitors were gifted possession 12 yards out and with Alisson stranded, Gonzalo Garcia should have scored. But Jeremy Jacquet produced a heroic clearance off the line to keep it 0-0.

That scare didn’t rattle the Reds. They regrouped quickly and had another big chance to take the lead midway through the first half. Dominik Szoboszlai swung in a corner that Victor Munoz headed toward goal, only for Bernd Leno to claw it away from the line.

Antonee Robinson headed one of Fulham’s best openings wide just before half-time. Still, former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa will have been pleased with his side’s showing. The Cottagers came into this game having lost their first three matches of the season.

Liverpool started the second half on the front foot and Isak forced Leno into a low save to his left. After that though, it was more of the same for Iraola’s team as they continued to find it tough to break through a stubborn Fulham defense.

 

Fulham offered little going forward, but they did threaten when Calvin Bassey powered a header straight at Alisson. Moments later Leno was back in action at the other end, turning away a fierce shot from Szoboszlai.

Josh King almost grabbed a late winner for Fulham, only for Alisson to tip his curling effort behind for a corner. On the whole it was a game with very few clear chances, and a draw felt like a fair result.

The result leaves Liverpool trailing in the early title race, while Fulham will take encouragement from the performance and hope it signals an upturn in form.
