EPL: Ipswich Bounce Back To Beat Palace And Ease Relegation Fears

Flemming’s late strike sinks Palace in 3-2 Ipswich thriller...
Zian Flemming came up clutch late to hand Ipswich Town a 3-2 win over 10-man Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. It’s the Tractor Boys’ first Premier League victory over the Eagles in seven meetings.
The visitors looked shaky defensively to start, and Scherpen was nearly punished for gifting possession to Wharton. But the Palace man lacked belief and passed it straight back to the Tractor Boys’ goalkeeper.
Palace didn’t miss their chance in the 14th minute. Anan Khalaili took Daichi Kamada’s pass and fired in a shot that took a deflection off Leif Davis, looping over Scherpen for his first goal for the club.
The Tractor Boys were level just 9 minutes after going behind as Emersonn ghosted in unmarked to power home Davis’ pinpoint delivery.
Julio Enciso then dragged a long-range effort wide, but Palace’s afternoon turned in the 34th minute when Axel Disasi was sent off for a straight red after his foul on Jack Clarke.
Palace’s problems deepened right before half-time. Emersonn flicked Dara O’Shea’s cross toward Leif Davis, who headed home to put Ipswich 2-1 up past a stranded Walter Benítez.
Emersonn continued to cause trouble early in the second half, beating Ahanor and Mitchell only to fire wide. Moments later Clarke forced a save from Benítez with a shot aimed at the near post.
Ipswich suffered a blow as their Brazilian striker limped off shortly after the hour mark. The concern grew as Palace began to pile on the pressure for an equaliser.
Quinten Timber had two good chances to make it 2-2, but dragged one wide and saw the other denied by Kjell Scherpen.
Palace finally got their reward with 15 minutes left. Jorgen Strand Larsen shrugged off Issa Diop and unleashed a brilliant strike across Scherpen into the far corner.
Palace had a golden opportunity to complete the comeback when Scherpen spilled Will Hughes’ cross, but Khalaili blasted over from close range.

Instead, Ipswich hit back after back-to-back defeats to United and Liverpool. Substitute Flemming was on hand to turn in the rebound after Davis’ header came back off the crossbar for their second win of the campaign.
Flemming’s late winner also ended Palace’s unbeaten run of three games.
