Coritiba defender Jacy Maranhao falls into tunnel while celebrating goal...
A Brazilian footballer said Monday he’s doing fine after an over-the-top goal celebration ended with him jumping over a barrier and falling into a tunnel.
The clip went viral after Jacy Maranhao, captain and defender for Coritiba in Brazil’s top flight, leapt over the pitch-side wall and dropped through an opening that leads to stairs and the locker room tunnel.
Video from the strange incident during Saturday’s match against Chapecoense shows him climbing back out, looking unsteady, and then rejoining his teammates to keep celebrating. His goal was later disallowed for offside after a VAR review.
Jacy came off in the second half because of discomfort, but Coritiba still beat Chapecoense 2-1 in the 2026 Brasileirão.
After the game he said he “got carried away,” adding that “defenders don't score many goals.”
Speaking to local media, he explained he wanted to celebrate with his pregnant wife. He just forgot the entrance to the underground tunnel was behind the advertising boards.
“When I jumped... you know that feeling when you dream you're falling from a building? That's what it was like,” he said.
The tunnel entrance is normally shut during the match and only opened at the end of each half. Since this happened just before halftime, the access point had already been opened.

“At first it was more of a scare than anything else. During the match my foot was quite painful and I couldn't really put weight on it, but today I'm feeling much better and recovering well,” Jacy wrote on social media.
This isn’t the first time it’s happened at Couto Pereira Stadium. Back in 2014, Coritiba striker Joel Tagueu, who’s from Cameroon, also fell into the tunnel while celebrating a goal.
