Colts hit by multiple injuries in camp

Shane Steichen updates Colts on Downs, Josh Downs “ain't serious” as Colts navigate training camp injuries. Walley injuries before Patriots preseason game.

Steichen says no concerns for Downs, but Colts monitoring 5 hamstring issues...

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen spoke to the media on Sunday with an update on two starters, including wide receiver Josh Downs.

“Downs ain’t serious at all. He might practice Tuesday,” Steichen said. “Nothing serious there.”

Downs is heading into his fourth NFL season. He was the fourth Colts player sidelined during training camp. Meanwhile, the team's WR1, Alec Pierce, still hasn’t practiced because of an ankle that required surgery.

Laquon Treadwell has been dealing with a hamstring injury and has missed the last three practices. Eli Pancol was also out for a couple of days with an undisclosed injury.

Pierce, Downs, and Treadwell all sat out both of the Colts’ practices over the weekend. The three-receiver group ran with Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Ashton Dulin, and Anthony Gould instead. Those three combined for just 18 receptions last season.

Steichen also flagged concerns about cornerback Justin Walley, who didn’t take part in team drills during Sunday’s practice. He went through warmups but tweaked his hamstring. Walley missed his entire 2025 rookie season after tearing his ACL.

“We’re just monitoring him, too,” Steichen said. “He had a little thing in practice. It wasn’t anything bad, but we just wanted to be smart with him today, and he just went in individual.”

The Colts now have five players dealing with hamstring issues: Walley, Treadwell, running back DJ Giddens, Hunter Wohler, and CJ Allen.

Indianapolis kicks off its first preseason game on Thursday against the New England Patriots.
