Mohamed Elyounoussi’s hat-trick powered FC Copenhagen to a comeback 3-1 victory at Silkeborg, giving Bo Svensson’s side a third win in seven days.

Elyounoussi ran the show on Sunday against Silkeborg IF. Copenhagen got off to a slow start and fell behind early, but the Norwegian forward flipped the match with three goals of his own.

Silkeborg struck first, but Elyounoussi responded with three goals to lift Copenhagen to a 3-1 win in round 2 of the Superliga.

The result puts Bo Svensson’s team level on points with FC Midtjylland at the top of the table. They’re the only two clubs with two wins from their first two games this season.

Copenhagen came out looking to dictate play as expected, but mistakes and giveaways broke up Svensson’s attacking flow. Silkeborg took advantage on the break and carved out multiple big chances before halftime.

In the 20th minute, Jens Martin Gammelby timed his run perfectly to meet a sharp pass from Callum McCowatt. His low effort was denied, though, by a quick foot save from goalkeeper Dominik Kotarski.

Silkeborg kept hurting Copenhagen with runs in behind. McCowatt was the creator again, threading a great ball to Oliver Ross, who finished from a tight angle into the roof of the net to put the hosts up 1-0.

Ross almost added a second after a big mistake from Gabriel Pereira handed Silkeborg another clear chance. This time Kotarski came to the rescue with a strong save to keep it at 1-0.

The equalizer came at the other end in the 42nd minute. Jordan Larsson whipped in a perfect cross for captain Mohamed Elyounoussi, who nodded it home confidently to make it 1-1.

Elyounoussi struck again just before halftime. Silkeborg gave him too much room on the edge of the box, and the Norwegian made them pay with a precise finish.

The 31-year-old was in the right spot for his third as well. Marcos López whipped a cross into the area, and Elyounoussi timed his run perfectly to meet it with another well-directed header for 3-1.

With the hat-trick, Elyounoussi now has four goals in Copenhagen’s first two Superliga games of the new season.
