Argentina’s 2026 World Cup squad member Valentin Barco has joined Chelsea from Strasbourg on a deal until 2033.

Chelsea have officially signed Argentina international Valentin Barco from sister club Strasbourg. The 21-year-old has put pen to paper on a deal that runs through 2033.

The versatile midfielder will link up with head coach Xabi Alonso and the rest of the squad later in pre-season.

 

Barco came through Boca Juniors’ academy and made his senior debut at just 16.

He switched to England in 2024 with Brighton, then spent time on loan at Sevilla and Strasbourg.

After a strong 2024/25 season, Strasbourg signed him outright. He helped them qualify for Europe, tallying 12 goal contributions in 43 games across all competitions.

His performances also earned a call-up to Argentina’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Barco has 5 caps for the national team so far.
