Top seeds Heliovaara and Patten set up Wimbledon doubles final return with straight-sets triumph.

Finland’s Harri Heliovaara and Britain’s Henry Patten, the world No.1 pairing, advanced to the 2026 Wimbledon men's doubles final by defeating unseeded Thanasi Kokkinakis and Aleksandar Kovacevic 7-6, 7-6 in the semis.

The pair, French Open finalists a month ago, are back at SW19 for a second final together after their 2024 triumph. With the 2025 Australian Open title also on their CVs, both will be targeting a third career Grand Slam.

Their journey to the final, much like the rest of their Championship run, has been anything but smooth.

The opening set was played entirely on serve. Heliovaara and Patten manufactured the lone break-point opportunity in the fourth game, but Kokkinakis and Kovacevic held firm, forcing a tiebreak - the sixth the top seeds have contested in their first 12 sets.

They drew on that familiarity. Two quick mini-breaks gave them a 3-0 advantage, and they closed out the set with a dominant 7-2 tiebreak win.

The second set mirrored the first. The Finnish-British duo saved the sole break point in the fourth game, and serve held without trouble until game 10, when the favourites faced - and saved - two set points. With the danger averted, the contest moved to a 13th tiebreak of their Wimbledon campaign.

In the breaker, a mini-break apiece made it 2-1, before eight consecutive holds. That scenario left Heliovaara and Patten leading 6-5 with a match point, yet facing two serves from Kokkinakis and Kovacevic.

The unseeded team saved the first serve but faltered on the second, presenting Heliovaara and Patten with further opportunities. Nerves got the better of the top seeds, however, as their opponents drew level at 7-7.

More late drama arrived when another unforced error from Kokkinakis and Kovacevic handed the world No.1s match point once more. There was no slip this time - they took the tiebreak 10-8 to seal a 7-6, 7-6 victory.

The men’s doubles final will be contested on Saturday, July 11, with Heliovaara and Patten up against sixth seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic.
