Muchova surpasses best Wimbledon Run with win over Osaka, faces Gauff next...
Karolina Muchova delivered a masterclass to knock Naomi Osaka out of Wimbledon and book her place in the semi-finals.
The Czech 10th seed ended Osaka’s hopes of a first Wimbledon crown on Tuesday, beating the four-time Grand Slam champion in straight sets in the quarter-finals.
Muchova, a former French Open finalist, won 7-6(4), 6-4 on Court One and will now face Coco Gauff in the semi-finals.
“It's unbelievable, I'm super happy with today's win, this atmosphere,” said Muchova.
“I'd played three times on this court and it had been 0-3.... but I finally made it today and got that win.
“I was nervous, I was very nervous.”
Muchova had gone out in round one in her last four trips to Wimbledon, but this run surpasses her previous bests at the All England Club - quarter-final exits in 2019 and 2021.
