Zverev sweeps past Giron in straight sets to advance to Wimbledon fourth round...

French Open champion Alexander Zverev took another step toward a maiden Wimbledon quarter-final by defeating Marcos Giron in the third round on Saturday.

The world No.2 has not progressed past the fourth round in his previous nine appearances at the All England Club.

“He plays fantastic on grass. I knew I had to be 100 per cent ready from the first point and I'm very happy to be through in straight sets,” Zverev said.

“Winning in Paris, coming here with a title, it helps. It was my first one and I want to keep going.

“I feel different than last year. I feel like I play better tennis and have more confidence in important moments. I want to keep going and play more important matches.”

The 29-year-old now appears primed to put that disappointing run behind him this summer.

Buoyed by his maiden major win on clay in Paris last month, the German looks increasingly at ease on the lawns of SW19.

Zverev beat No.92 Giron 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-4 on Court One and will now take on 13th seed Jiri Lehecka in the fourth round.
