Jannik Sinner’s title defence is building momentum. The world No.1 eased past American Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 on Friday to book his spot in the fourth round at Wimbledon and underline why he’s the favorite at the All England Club.
After being pushed to five sets in round one and surviving two tiebreaks in round two, the Italian looked far more comfortable on Court One. He gave Brooksby little room to break his rhythm on grass.
"I'm very happy about the win, I'm trying to improve every day,” said Sinner, who came into the All England Club without playing a competitive grass-court match following his surprise second-round exit at the French Open.
“A small step forwards today, trying to get better. If I want to go far in this tournament, there are a couple of things that we need to work on.”
The 24-year-old wasted no time getting into it and avoided another draining match on a warm afternoon. He broke for a 4-3 lead when Brooksby sent a forehand long, then raced through the first set in just 37 minutes.
Job done for the defending champion.

World No.81 Brooksby tried to change the pace and pull Sinner forward more in the second set, but it didn’t work. The four-time Grand Slam winner used his excellent movement to handle it and quickly went two sets up.
Brooksby struck first in the third with a blistering backhand winner to get the break, but Sinner hit back right away. The top seed stayed composed after dropping serve late and sealed a place in the last 16 against Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki.
