Germany 4-0 Finland: World Cup Warm-up Win
Germany cruise past Finland

Germany beat Finland 4-0 in Mainz with Undav brace, Wirtz and Musiala goals. Nagelsmann’s side extend winning run to 8 games ahead of 2026 World Cup.

Jamal Musiala marked his first Germany appearance since March 2025 with a goal in a win over Finland. Undav scored twice as Germany head to Chicago next...

Germany made it eight wins in a row with a dominant 4-0 friendly win over Finland in Mainz. It was their last match at home before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while Finland suffered back-to-back defeats.

Veteran keeper Manuel Neuer came out of retirement for the World Cup but watched from the stands due to injury. That gave Oliver Baumann the chance to start in goal for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Like Neuer, Baumann barely had any work to do in the first half as Germany kept Finland pinned back. The hosts pressed high early, with Deniz Undav and Florian Wirtz testing Lukas Hradecky right from the start. Undav then burst onto Jamal Musiala’s clever, disguised pass but was stopped by Hradecky rushing off his line.

Hradecky’s strong stand didn’t last, though. Undav finally opened the scoring in the 34th minute, sneaking in at the far post to head home Joshua Kimmich’s precise short-corner delivery.

Even though Finland failed to qualify for the World Cup, they only trailed by one goal at halftime. But they handed Germany a second three minutes after the restart when Adam Markhiev gave the ball away in his own box. Undav took advantage and squared it for Wirtz to tap in easily.

Things went from bad to worse for Finland just before the hour mark. Undav scored his second of the night, firing a left-footed shot past Hradecky to cap off a sharp counter-attack. It was his second international brace.

With confidence flowing through the side, the four-time world champions combined for a sharp, slick move that set up Jamal Musiala to blast in a fierce strike. It was his first cap for Germany since March 2025.

Some desperate last-ditch defending stopped Germany from making it 5-0. Still, keeping a clean sheet for the fifth time in seven games will please Nagelsmann as they fly to Chicago. Their final warm-up is against co-hosts USA, before kicking off their hunt for a fifth World Cup title vs Curacao on June 14.

For Finland, nicknamed the Eagle Owls, the next stop is Budapest. They face Hungary on June 5 in their last friendly before returning to competitive football in the UEFA Nations League in September.
