Several Norway internationals plus head coach Stale Solbakken were in the stands as the Carolina Hurricanes moved one step closer to lifting the Stanley Cup against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Norwegian men’s squad and Solbakken seized a last-minute chance to take in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final in Raleigh, North Carolina, early Friday morning CET.

“This would hardly have been possible without a player on the team who has a name that sounds better than that of the material manager,” said national team coach Stale Solbakken to http://nrk.no when asked how the visit came about.

Along with Solbakken, Erling Braut Haaland, Sander Berge, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Leo Skiri Ostigaard made the trip from Greensboro, where Norway’s camp is based, to Raleigh, the state capital and host city for the game.

The Hurricanes’ arena in North Carolina holds 18,700 fans and is billed as “the noisiest house in the NHL.”

Erling Haaland, who is staying in Greensboro, made the trip to Raleigh to enjoy some Stanley Cup hockey.

“I know Thoresen senior and junior (Petter, Norwegian national team manager, and Patrick, sports manager) and texted with them on the way here. Then I got tactical input on what I should look for. But I don't think it helped,” said Solbakken, laughing.

“The atmosphere was the best thing for me, it was insane,” he added.

Norway’s squad will keep training in Greensboro through early next week, before traveling to Foxborough, Massachusetts for their World Cup opener against Iraq on Wednesday night.

Stale Solbakken has said before that the players get “freedom with responsibilities” while they’re in the USA.
