Yastrzemski Hits Walk-Off as Braves Move to MLB-Best 31-14
| Yastrzemski’s clutch hit keeps Braves rolling |
The Braves improved to an MLB-best 31-14 after beating Boston in extras, leading the league with a +92 run differential.
With wins from Olson and Smith earlier this season, the Braves added another dramatic finish against the Red Sox...
Mike Yastrzemski delivered a walk-off hit in the 10th inning to give the Atlanta Braves a win over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. His line drive to left-center sealed it in extras.
The win pushed the Braves to 31-14, the best record in Major League Baseball. They’re the only team with 30 wins so far, with the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago Cubs trailing just behind at 29 each.
Atlanta leads all of baseball in run differential at +92. The Yankees sit second with +72, and no other team is above +70.
At 35 years old, Yastrzemski went 1-for-2 after entering as a pinch hitter for Jose Azocar, who also finished 1-for-2. That walk-off lifted his average to .221 on the year. Through 42 games he has 11 RBI, one home run, nine walks, and 33 strikeouts.
This wasn’t Atlanta’s first walk-off of the season. Two weeks ago Matt Olson won it with a home run, and a month ago Dominic Smith hit a walk-off grand slam.
The Braves continue their three-game set against the Red Sox on Saturday, May 16th, with the series finale set for the next day.
