Switzerland 3-1 USA: Hosts Start Strong in Zurich
Switzerland got revenge for 2025’s final defeat, downing the Americans 3-1 in Zurich-Altstetten. Early goals from Suter and Andrighetto set the tone.
A sold-out crowd watched Switzerland take down the USA in their World Championship opener. The Swiss held off a late US push to secure the win...
The Swiss came into Hallenstadion with a point to prove. After falling to the United States in last year’s World Championship final, they opened their 2026 gold-medal push at home in front of a sold-out, 10,000-strong crowd in Zurich-Altstetten. The atmosphere was electric, with ZSC Lions fans packing the building.
Switzerland wasted no time flipping the script from 2025. Pius Suter got the home fans on their feet just over two minutes into the game, burying the opener to make it 1-0. The momentum kept building, and at 12:xx it was Sven Andrighetto - playing in his club city for the ZSC Lions - who doubled the lead to 2-0. The U.S. was on its heels, down two before the first intermission despite being listed as the home team on the official sheet.
No better feeling for @swissicehockey than winning at home for your first game of 2026 #MensWorlds 🙌🔥

Team USA finally found a response in the third, cutting the lead to 2-1. But with the Hallenstadion crowd roaring and the U.S. pressing late, Ken Jager iced the game for Switzerland to make it 3-1. The Swiss defense held firm from there, closing out a revenge win.
