From third tier to double winners in 6 months. Mjallby held off Hammarby in stoppage time drama to claim their first Swedish Cup...
Mjallby made history again by edging Hammarby 2-1 to win the 2025/26 Svenska Cupen final at Strawberry Arena in Solna.
Just six months after claiming their first-ever Allsvenskan title, the club has now added a second major trophy to their cabinet.
Mjallby 2-1 Hammarby – Svenska Cupen final.
Both teams went through the group stage unbeaten. Mjallby had a smoother path to only their second final, beating Malmo in the quarters and GAIS in the semis. Hammarby had it tougher, edging rivals Djurgarden in the last eight before scraping past Sirius on penalties.
Hammarby got some revenge on MAIF with a 3-0 win on opening day of the 2026 Allsvenskan season, but both sides came into the final unbeaten in five games.
It was billed as a tight contest, and it got feisty early when Paulos Abraham and Tony Miettinen clashed in the 17th minute. The tempers didn’t cool, but both players turned that energy into strong performances in the minutes that followed.

Mjallby’s title-winning form showed early when they opened the scoring in the 19th minute with their first shot on target. Tony Miettinen played a long ball forward, Elliot Stroud brought it down brilliantly, and finished low into the corner.
Hammarby hit back almost straight away. Three minutes later, Hampus Skoglund threaded a sharp pass through the Mjallby defense to Paulos Abraham. He held off a couple of challenges in the box and slotted it past Robin Wallinder.
Hammarby had more possession in the first half, but they didn’t make it count. Mjallby made them pay in stoppage time when Jeppe Kjaer cut in from the right and played it to Jacob Bergstrom. Bergstrom controlled it awkwardly, then fired it past Warner Hahn. That made it 2-1, with all three shots on target in the half finding the net.
Both goalkeepers were finally called into action in the second half as Kalle Karlsson’s Hammarby side took control, holding around 70% possession for long spells. But they couldn’t find a way through a Mjallby defense that had already lost Abdoulie Manneh to injury just minutes after the restart.
Karl Marius Aksum’s Mjallby sat deep and made sure Hammarby couldn’t create anything clear late on. The closest scare came in the 11th minute of stoppage time when Abraham went down in the box under a challenge from Aki Samuelsen.
Hammarby players protested loudly, but the referee blew for full-time instead of pointing to the spot. That sparked wild celebrations from Mjallby as tensions boiled over.
The decision sealed another historic win for MAIF. It also made up for their heavy defeat to Hacken in their only previous final back in 2023.

It felt right that Bergstrom got the winner. He’s been with Mjallby since their third-tier days, so scoring in a cup final was a full-circle moment. Stroud also capped off a perfect week after earning his first call-up to Sweden’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
For Hammarby, it’s another final loss. They’ve now finished runners-up in the cup twice since winning it in 2021, and this was their fifth silver medal overall.
