Randers secured their Danish Superliga status with a 2-2 draw against OB on Monday night, a result that also confirmed Fredericia’s relegation. OB finished the game with 10 men after goalkeeper Viljar Myhra was dismissed.

The draw saw OB clinch eighth place in the Superliga and keep their hopes alive of reaching a playoff for a Conference League spot.

Randers FC have secured their place in next season’s Superliga, while FC Fredericia will drop down alongside Vejle. 

That was confirmed after Monday’s 2-2 draw between Randers and OB, a lively encounter in the penultimate round.

If FC Copenhagen defeat FC Midtjylland in Thursday’s Danish Cup final, OB will meet the third-placed team from the championship playoffs for a spot in the Conference League.

FC Nordsjaelland, Viborg, and Sonderjyske are still in the running for third. OB came out strongest on Monday, and after eight minutes Jan Fiete Arp showed why he’s featured for Bayern Munich and Germany’s youth teams.

OB’s forward opened the scoring with a brilliant free kick, curling it past Paul Izzo to put the visitors 1-0 up. The game shifted in the 29th minute when goalkeeper Viljar Myhra brought down fellow Norwegian Martin Sjolstad and was sent off, leaving OB with 10 men.

Playing in special shirts to mark 20 years since their first cup win in 2006, Randers initially struggled to make the most of the man advantage. That changed early in the second half when Nikolas Dyhr headed home to level things up.

Thibault Klidje then put Randers ahead, finishing off a deep cross from Elies Mahmoud. The lead didn’t last long though – seven minutes later, Leeroy Osuwu pounced on Jan Fiete Arp’s clever delivery to pull OB level again, and 2-2 is how it finished.
