The San Antonio Spurs are heading to the Western Conference Finals after blowing out the Timberwolves 139-109 on Friday night.

They went into Game 6 in Minnesota up 3-2 in the best-of-seven series, and never gave up the lead. The win sets up a matchup with the defending champion and No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder.

Stephon Castle powered the wire-to-wire win with 32 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 11-of-16 from the field. De’Aaron Fox and Victor Wembanyama chipped in with 21 and 19 points to back him up.

It’s San Antonio’s first trip to the conference finals since 2017, after a resurgent season. The Thunder might be heavy favorites to repeat, but the Spurs have the edge in the season series, winning 4 of 5 against Oklahoma City in the regular season.

“We don't really care about the outside noise. We knew that we were ahead of schedule, probably in December of last year,” said Castle.

“We know it's going to be tough to knock them off, but I think we're pretty confident we can do it,” he added.

San Antonio came out firing and blew the game open in the first quarter. They controlled the paint and Castle was on fire early.

Minnesota looked out of it for a bit, but Edwards dragged them back in with his usual aggression.

Up 74-61 at halftime, the Spurs pulled away in the third. They threw double teams at Edwards and took Minnesota’s main weapon out of the game.

By the end of the third, San Antonio had a 26-point cushion and it was all but over. They were shooting 56% from the field, well ahead of Minnesota’s mark.

With eight minutes left and the Spurs up 25, both teams were ready to bring in the benches. Edwards walked over during a timeout to congratulate San Antonio early on a convincing win.
