Federico Valverde was diagnosed with head trauma after a clash with Aurelien Tchouameni. Both players were fined €500k and the squad held an emergency meeting.

An emergency meeting was held at Real Madrid after a training ground fight between Valverde and Tchouameni, with unrest reportedly growing in the squad...

Each player was fined €500,000 following a serious confrontation during Thursday’s training session, an incident that reportedly saw captain Valverde taken to hospital.

In a statement, Madrid said both players met with the appointed investigator and expressed “complete remorse” for what happened.

“Real Madrid C. F. announces that, following the events that led to the disciplinary proceedings initiated yesterday against our players Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni, both appeared today before the investigator assigned to the case,” a statement from the club read.

“During their appearance, the players expressed their complete remorse for what happened and apologised to each other.

“Furthermore, they extended their apologies to the club, their teammates, the coaching staff, and the fans, and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept whatever sanction the club deems appropriate.

“Under these circumstances, Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial penalty of five hundred thousand euros on each player, thereby concluding the corresponding internal procedures.”

Real Madrid said on Thursday that Valverde had been diagnosed with head trauma and would be sidelined for 10 to 14 days.

The club stated that Valverde was “at home and in good condition” following the incident, which occurred one day after a separate altercation between him and Tchouameni.

In a social media post the same day, Valverde apologized to the club and fans, but pushed back on reports of a serious fight. He explained that during “an argument” he “accidentally knocked over a table.”

The seriousness of the incident led to an emergency meeting with senior club officials, and no players left the training ground for more than an hour as Madrid tried to prevent tensions from escalating further. The situation has left the squad on edge and visibly split.

The disruption comes after another reported confrontation earlier this week involving defender Alvaro Carreras, which has only added to the strain within the group.
