Ferland Mendy out for months with thigh injury, faces surgery

The France defender was subbed off after 14 minutes in Madrid’s 2-0 win and is set for his 16th injury layoff since 2019.

Mendy’s latest setback rules him out of contention for Didier Deschamps’ World Cup squad plans...

Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy has picked up another major injury, with Spanish outlets reporting Monday that a thigh problem will keep him out for several months.

Mendy lasted only 14 minutes before being subbed off in Sunday’s 2-0 win against Espanyol, a result that put Barcelona’s LaLiga title celebration on hold.

“Following tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy... he has been diagnosed with a rectus femoris tendon injury in his right leg,” Madrid said in a statement.

The French defender is set for surgery in the next few hours after picking up his 16th injury since moving to Madrid from Lyon in 2019.

Mendy last played for France in June 2024, and a spot in Didier DeschampsWorld Cup squad was already looking unlikely.
