Real Betis 3-0 Real Oviedo: Pellegrini Makes LaLiga History in Rout

Real Betis Vs Real Oviedo
Betis deepen Oviedo’s relegation woe

Manuel Pellegrini became only the third manager to beat 40 different teams in LaLiga. Betis extend unbeaten H2H run to 14 games with commanding win over Oviedo.

Cucho Hernandez double sinks Oviedo as Betis push rivals closer to relegation...

Cucho Hernandez scored twice to lead Real Betis to a 3-0 victory over Real Oviedo at Estadio de La Cartuja, leaving Oviedo on the brink of relegation. The result also saw Manuel Pellegrini become just the third manager in LaLiga history to beat 40 different clubs in the competition.

Real Oviedo came into the match eight points from safety and started with urgency. Ilyas Chaira forced Alvaro Valles into an early save just 15 seconds after kick-off.

Valles was tested again minutes later, tipping away Alberto Reina’s turning shot before Santiago Colombatto curled a free-kick just past the near post.

Oviedo’s bright start unraveled midway through the half when a deflected Pablo Fornals cross dropped to Cucho Hernández, and Betis’ leading LaLiga scorer slotted home from 15 yards.

Despite getting into promising areas, Oviedo couldn’t find an equalizer. Betis nearly made it two before the break, but Chaira produced a goal-line slide to stop Abde Ezzalzouli from tapping in at the far post.

Oviedo believed they were denied a penalty when Sofyan Amrabat caught Thiago Fernandez with his studs sliding in near the byline. Their frustration deepened when Antony set up Abde Ezzalzouli to poke home and make it 2-0 for Betis right before half-time.

Los Azules were again frustrated eight minutes into the second half. Federico Vinas headed in what looked like a goal to pull one back, but VAR ruled him offside by inches.

Santi Cazorla came off the bench at 41 to spark an Oviedo comeback, but Betis struck again before he could influence the game. A counter-attack ended with Hernandez flicking Ezzalzouli’s cross in off the post for his 10th LaLiga goal of the season.

Viñas headed wide twice and Valles blocked Reina’s shot with his legs, but Betis closed out a comfortable win to stretch their unbeaten record against Oviedo to 14 matches, with 7 wins and 7 draws.

Pellegrini’s team haven’t lost a home league game since December and now sit six points above sixth-place Celta Vigo. That gap could matter if Spain earns a fifth Champions League qualifying spot.

Oviedo, meanwhile, look headed straight back to the second division with only four LaLiga matches left to play.
