Norway Beats Denmark 4-3 in Overtime to Reach Ice Hockey Worlds Quarterfinals

Norway closed out the group stage at the Ice Hockey World Championships with a 4-3 overtime win over Denmark on Tuesday. The result moved them to second place in Group B and secured a spot in the quarterfinals.
Norway held a 6-4 record against Denmark at the World Championships heading into the game. Denmark had won the most recent meeting last year on their way to the bronze-medal match.
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard ended the game 13 seconds into overtime, scoring the goal that gave Norway the 4-3 victory.
The first period started slowly, but Norway broke through midway through when Tinus Luc Koblar scored on a rebound after the puck landed at his feet.
Denmark tied the game at 7:53 after Norwegian goalkeeper Henrik Haukeland mishandled a long shot. Joachim Blichfeld capitalized and pushed the puck over the line.
Norway answered quickly with two goals in a row. Captain Andreas Martinsen scored on a power play at 10:42 to make it 2-1, and Koblar added his second of the night three and a half minutes later.
Denmark cut the lead to 3-2 just 62 seconds later on a power play when Blichfeld scored his second goal of the game.

Norway held a 3-2 lead late in the third period, but with Denmark goalie Nicolaj Henriksen pulled for an extra attacker, Patrick Russell tipped the puck in with 1.1 seconds remaining to tie the game and force overtime.
