Alex Bump tied it late for Philadelphia, but Carolina prevailed 3-2 in OT in Game 4 to complete the sweep and extend their perfect playoff run...

The Carolina Hurricanes completed a sweep of the Philadelphia Flyers with a 3-2 victory in Game 4 on Saturday.

The win made them only the fifth team in NHL history to open the playoffs with eight straight victories. They now head to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they’ll face either the Montreal Canadiens or the Buffalo Sabres.

Jackson Blake, who opened the scoring for Carolina, finished the sweep with his fourth goal of the postseason.

Goaltender Frederik Andersen has now gone eight consecutive games while giving up two goals or fewer.

Recap

The Flyers opened the scoring despite managing just five shots on goal in the opening period.

Tyson Foerster netted his first goal of the postseason to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead, also picking up his first point of the playoffs with assists from Trevor Zegras and Porter Martone.

The helper gave Martone his fifth point of the run, moving him to second among teenagers in Flyers playoff history. He now trails only Dainius Zubrus, who recorded nine points in 1997.

Foerster became the 16th different Flyers player to score in this postseason. One more would tie the 2025 Florida Panthers for the most in the last 30 years.

After missing a chance to go up 2-0 on their first power play, the Flyers killed off Carolina’s opening man advantage and carried a 1-0 lead into the second. That’s when momentum shifted toward the Hurricanes.

Carolina finally broke through nearly 33 minutes into the game when Jackson Blake scored his third of the playoffs to make it 1-1. K’Andre Miller and Taylor Hall picked up the assists.

Carolina’s Mark Jankowski appeared to net his first goal of the playoffs, and just the second of his career, moments later. After a review, the officials called goalie interference, keeping the game tied at 1-1 heading into the third.

Philadelphia was outshot 23-9 through two periods but countered with 15 blocked shots compared to Carolina’s three.

Neither team had converted on the power play, with both going 0-for-3. That included a key Hurricanes penalty kill when the Flyers couldn’t capitalize on a 5-on-3 advantage midway through the second.

The Flyers had several chances to retake the lead, hitting the post and creating a 2-on-1 break that Frederik Andersen stopped with a standout save, but they couldn’t find the back of the net.

The tension of facing elimination and the push to complete a sweep was clear in how both teams played in the third period.

Carolina went up 2-1 when Logan Stankoven scored his league-leading seventh goal of the postseason. Taylor Hall added his second assist of the night and eighth of the playoffs, while Jackson Blake picked up his seventh.

Philadelphia didn’t stay quiet for long.

Less than two minutes later, the Xfinity Mobile Arena erupted. Alex Bump made it 2-2 with his second goal of the playoffs, set up by a slick feed from Travis Konecny for his fourth assist, with just under 14 minutes remaining.

With that goal, Bump joined Scott Hartnell and Scott Laughton as the only Flyers in the last 20 years to score a late tying goal in a playoff elimination game. Hartnell did it in 2010 and 2011, Laughton in 2020.

It was also Philadelphia’s fifth goal from a rookie this postseason. After a scoreless finish to the third, the game went to overtime with Carolina holding a 36-15 edge in shots.

Ultimately, it was the Hurricanes who came out on top.
