Sarri departs Lazio

Lazio confirm Sarri’s exit by mutual consent following a Coppa Italia final loss and 9th-place Serie A finish. Gattuso tipped to replace him.

Lazio’s managerial shake-up follows a trophyless season and comes days after AC Milan parted ways with Allegri...

Lazio have confirmed that Maurizio Sarri has left the club for a second time, with both sides agreeing to part ways, the Serie A team announced on Wednesday.

The 67-year-old wrapped up his second spell in charge after just one season. It ended with a Coppa Italia final loss to Inter Milan and a 9th-place finish in Serie A.

This return was a short one compared to his first run from 2021 to 2024. In that period he led Lazio to a second-place league finish in 2023 before stepping down for family reasons.

Italian media say Sarri is expected to become Atalanta’s next manager soon, while former Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso looks set to take over at Lazio.

The managerial shift comes just days after AC Milan split with Massimiliano Allegri, a day after the Serie A season wrapped up.
