United want three new midfielders this summer. Mateus Fernandes is under serious consideration at £50m, Ederson deal looks likely, but Carlos Baleba move depends on Brighton dropping £100m price.

Man United may delay left attacker signing as Rashford Barca move stalls...

Manchester United have added Mateus Fernandes to their midfield shortlist. The Red Devils will move for the West Ham player this summer, but only if his price tag is right.

United plan to make contact with West Ham soon to signal their interest. That move comes after the Hammers were relegated from the Premier League.

United are understood to want three new midfielders this window, and 21-year-old Fernandes is now one of the names they’re seriously weighing up.

There’s a feeling Fernandes will hit the market, and United are trying to figure out what it would take to land him. They rate him around £50m and want to see if a fair deal is possible.

People close to West Ham think the club will try to pull other suitors in. The hope is that more interest turns into a bidding war and pushes his value up.

Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal have also been strongly linked with him so far.

United pushing for Fernandes ties into their attempt to wrap up a deal for Brazilian midfielder Ederson at the same time.

An early summer agreement for the Atalanta man looks more likely by the day. Sources say a fee under £35m has been on the table, and United view that as the kind of value they want to hit on more signings this summer.

United are set on avoiding overpaying, and that approach could impact their chase of Brighton’s Carlos Baleba. He’s still a player they rate highly, but only if Brighton drop their £100m asking price.

So far Brighton haven’t budged on that figure. With the window getting closer, United might shift focus to targets that look more realistic.

Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni are also on United’s radar. But any move for them would come down to cost and whether they’re actually available.

United might also hold off on signing a left-sided attacker until Marcus Rashford’s situation is sorted.

Rashford’s future is still unclear, and Anthony Gordon being close to a move to Barcelona adds to the uncertainty around him.

We understand Rashford still hopes a permanent transfer to Barca can happen. The club like him too, but it all hinges on whether the finances work.

Because of that, United could focus on bringing in a left-back early in the summer window instead. Lewis Hall is currently the main target for that spot.
