Hurricanes One Win from First Stanley Cup Final Since 2006
| Carolina pushes Montreal to brink with game 4 road win |
Carolina’s 4-0 shutout in Montreal puts them on the verge of returning to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 19 years.
Sebastian Aho, Jordan Staal, Logan Stankhoven and Andrei Svechnikov scored as Carolina took a commanding 3-1 series lead...
The Carolina Hurricanes shut out the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 on the road, scoring three goals late in the first period to take a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference final.
After winning the previous two games, Carolina moved within one win of reaching the Stanley Cup final for the first time since 2006.
Carolina opened the scoring with five minutes remaining in the first period. After Zachary Bolduc took a penalty, the Hurricanes capitalized on the power play when Nikolaj Ehlers set up Sebastian Aho for a first-time finish into the net.

That marked the Canes’ 11th power-play goal of the NHL playoffs, more than any other team.

Carolina made it 2-0 just 68 seconds later. K’Andre Miller had too much room near the net and fed Jordan Staal, whose shot beat Jakub Dobes and quieted the Montreal crowd.
The scoring didn’t stop there. With 2:14 left in the first period, the Hurricanes pushed it to 3-0 after Montreal turned the puck over. Carolina broke the other way, Jackson Blake set up Logan Stankhoven, and he buried it from close range.

Carolina outshot Montreal 43-18 overall, though more than half of the Canadiens’ shots came in the second period. Even with that push, they couldn’t find a goal or stay within striking distance.
Montreal pulled its goalie for an extra skater in the third period to try and spark a comeback, but couldn’t solve Frederik Andersen, who locked down the shutout. Andrei Svechnikov sealed it with an empty-net goal in the final two minutes to make it 4-0.
