Harry Maguire is expected to miss out on Thomas Tuchel’s final England squad for the World Cup. Reports say the Manchester United defender was caught off guard and left disappointed by the decision.
The 33-year-old has been a regular for England since the 2018 World Cup. He was also left out of the Euro 2024 squad, even as England went on to reach the final.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs and Talksport’s Alex Crook, this summer’s tournament looks set to bring another unexpected snub for Maguire.
Those close to Maguire say he was surprised by Tuchel’s call to leave him out, especially after a strong season at club level.

The centre back has worked his way back into a key role at Manchester United under Michael Carrick. He started 18 of his 22 Premier League games this campaign.
“I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision,” he said on social media.
“I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years.
“I wish the players, all the best this summer.”
