Elena Rybakina advanced to the second round at Roland Garros on Monday after a straightforward opening win against Slovenia’s Veronika Erjavec.

 

The second seed wrapped up the 6-2, 6-2 victory in 74 minutes on a hot Court Philippe Chatrier to move through the round of 128.

“I'm really happy with the win of course, there are things to improve but today it's really hot,” Rybakina said on court, before reminding the spectators to make sure to stay hydrated

Rybakina’s next opponent is Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva. The Kazakh is aiming for her second Grand Slam title this season after winning the Australian Open in January.

The 26-year-old struggled in the WTA 1000 events leading up to the French Open, but she has already won a clay title this year in Stuttgart.
