Mikkel Damsgaard and William Osula scored as Brentford and Newcastle picked up key wins on Saturday afternoon, boosting their European qualification hopes and easing relegation worries. In Italy, Udinese’s Thomas Kristensen also found the net in a rare goal to help his side beat Torino.

Denmark midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard played a key role in Brentford’s 3-0 home victory over West Ham. The result leaves the Hammers at risk of slipping back toward the drop zone if Tottenham beat Aston Villa on Sunday.

Damsgaard sealed the win for Brentford in the 82nd minute, turning sharply in the box before placing a low shot past fellow Dane Mads Hermansen in the West Ham goal to make it 3-0.

William Osula, 22, started for Newcastle against Brighton at St James’ Park for the fifth game in a row.

The striker opened the scoring in the 12th minute after Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen came out and slipped. Jacob Murphy crossed to the unmarked Osula, who headed into an empty net from close range.

Osula was taken off for Yoane Wissa in the 68th minute, with Newcastle holding on for a 3-1 win that ended their five-match losing streak.

Danish center-back Thomas Kristensen rarely scores, but he struck on Saturday to help Udinese climb into the top half of Serie A with a straightforward 2-0 win over Torino.

After Kingsley Ehizibue gave Udinese the lead just before half-time, Kristensen made it 2-0 six minutes into the second half, heading Lennon Miller’s cross into the far corner.
