It was not a straightforward path for Blauw-Zwart. The club dismissed coach Nicky Hayen on December 8 and brought in Croatian Ivan Leko from Gent as his replacement.
Brugge had the most potent attack in Belgium during both the regular season and the play-offs, scoring 59 goals and 27 goals respectively. That firepower came from league joint top scorers Christos Tzolis and Nicolo Tresoldi, with the Greek forward and German striker each netting 16 times.
