Goals from Maeda, Engels and Iheanacho sealed a 3-1 Scottish Cup final win over Dunfermline, giving Celtic the league and cup double under Martin O’Neill.
O’Neill’s Celtic cap perfect end to season with Scottish Cup win...
Celtic completed the domestic double with a 3-1 win over Dunfermline in Saturday’s Scottish Cup final. The victory came just a week after they clinched the league title in dramatic fashion.
Martin O’Neill’s team took control before halftime at Hampden Park. Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels both scored to put Celtic 2-0 up heading into the break.
At 74 years old, O’Neill has now won nine major trophies with Celtic across two spells spanning 26 years.
This latest success gave Celtic their 14th domestic double of league and Scottish Cup titles.
O’Neill is currently serving as interim manager for a second time this season. He has not yet confirmed whether he will stay on for next year.
It made for a fitting finale that O’Neill’s likely farewell came against Dunfermline and Neil Lennon. Lennon played a key role under O’Neill during his time at both Celtic and Leicester earlier in his career.
Asked if he could be persuaded to stay, O'Neill said: “Next week I might get to speak to the owner. Dermot Desmond brought me back in the first place, I owe him a great deal otherwise I wouldn't be here.
“If the season was to start tomorrow, I couldn't do it. But the season doesn't start tomorrow. The Scottish season does start quickly though, and I'm getting old.
“What I have is a passion for the game. I don't think that will ever leave me, even in my final days. That's always been me. I have a desire to win.”

Celtic edged out Hearts to win the Scottish Premiership title last weekend. They came from behind to beat the Edinburgh side 3-1 on the final day of the season.
Late goals from Daizen Maeda and Callum Osmand sealed it for the Hoops. The win put them two points clear of Derek McInnes’ Hearts, who had led the table for most of the campaign.
Hearts were left frustrated by the run-in. They felt Celtic stayed in the race thanks to a controversial penalty that won the game at Motherwell the week before.
The final day itself passed without any such controversy. Celtic took control early and never looked back.
Alistair Johnston set up the opener in the 19th minute. His ball found Maeda, who lifted a finish over a stranded Aston Oxborough.

Celtic made it 2-0 in the 36th minute. Arne Engels struck from 25 yards with a powerful drive that left Oxborough with no chance.
Iheanacho latched onto Benjamin Nygren’s through ball in the 72nd minute. He used quick footwork to get past three defenders and slotted the ball home to make it 3-0.
Cooper pulled one back for Dunfermline in the 79th minute. He scored from the rebound after Charlie Gilmour’s shot was blocked, but Celtic’s lead was never really under threat.
