Cagliari secure Serie A Safety with comeback win over Torino...
Cagliari have secured their place in Serie A next season after coming from behind to beat Torino 2-1. Rafael Obrador opened the scoring with a stunning strike for Torino, but goals from Sebastiano Esposito and Yerry Mina turned the game around for the Sardinians.
Cagliari only needed a point to guarantee safety following their 2-0 loss to Udinese. They were without Ze Pedro through suspension, while Mattia Felici, Leonardo Pavoletti, Luca Mazzitelli and Riyad Idrissi missed out through injury. Torino were also missing several players, with Gvidas Gineitis suspended and Tino Anjorin, Ardian Ismajli and Zarakia Aboukhlal sidelined.
There was an emotional moment before kick-off as Cagliari striker Leonardo Pavoletti was given a tribute to mark his retirement.
Marco Palestra made a couple of runs down the right and forced Alberto Paleari into action with his shots. Giovanni Simeone had a better chance when he linked up with Nikola Vlasic in a give-and-go, but he fired over from seven yards.
Simeone later failed to keep his header down from a good position. He then pounced on an Adam Obert mistake and looked set to shoot, but Yerry Mina made a desperate sliding tackle to block him.

Torino made him pay almost immediately. From the resulting corner, the ball was played short to Rafael Obrador, who struck an extraordinary long-range shot into the near top corner with power and a sharp swerve.

Torino’s lead lasted less than a minute. Sebastiano Esposito received the ball with his back to goal just outside the area, turned quickly, and drilled a low right-footed shot into the far bottom corner to make it 1-1.

Cagliari completed the turnaround in first-half stoppage time. Paleari managed to acrobatically tip Gabriele Zappa’s effort away at the near post, but he could not prevent Yerry Mina from bundling in the rebound.
After the restart, Paul Mendy’s glancing header from a Cagliari corner flashed wide. Elia Caprile then produced a sensational reaction save with his foot to deny Che Adams’ volley at the back post after Zappa misjudged the bounce.
