Switzerland pick up third-straight victory in Nations League after downing Slovenia...
Switzerland maintained their perfect record in this Nations League campaign with a third straight win, beating Slovenia 2-1 in Luzern to make it seven victories from the last nine meetings and end the visitors' unbeaten start.
After a strong start to their campaign, Switzerland were stunned by an early Slovenia goal inside two minutes.
Johan Manzambi's weak header from a corner was comfortably saved by Jan Oblak, who launched a swift counter that ended with Zan Vipotnik swivelling to find the bottom corner for his first competitive international goal since September 2025.
It was the first goal either side had conceded in this Nations League campaign, but Slovenia's defence was soon breached when Remo Freuler's effort was deflected in by the unfortunate Erik Janza.
Switzerland responded well to their early setback and turned the game around before half-time through Dan Ndoye. Freuler's defence-splitting pass was intended for Zeki Amdouni, but after pinball in the box, the ball fell to Ndoye and he found the bottom corner.
Slovenia tried to level again through Janza who, after scoring at the wrong end, saw his free-kick brush the roof of the net.
The visitors also came close to an equaliser straight after the break when Danijel Sturm's effort deflected off teammate Vipotnik and into the side netting. Oblak was the busier goalkeeper in the early stages of the second half, though, first getting down well to tip Freuler's effort away before twice denying Manzambi in quick succession either side of the hour mark.
Amdouni also threatened to add to his three Nations League goals so far this campaign, but Oblak was on hand again to keep out his close-range effort.
Switzerland looked more likely to score the game's fourth goal in the latter stages, and substitute Winsley Boteli's eyes lit up when he saw Ndoye fizz a ball across goal, but he failed to make clean contact from just a few yards out and missed a big chance.

Nonetheless, the hosts held on for another Nations League victory to extend their lead at the top of the group to five points, while also stretching their unbeaten run in normal time to 12 games (W7, D5).
Slovenia's woeful away run continues with just one win in seven such matches (D2, L4), but they remain in contention for a top-two finish and a promotion play-off spot.
