Arsenal draw at Brighton

A decade after their last league triumph, Manchester City reclaim the WSL crown with one game to spare following Arsenal’s stalemate on the south coast.

Frida Maanum’s equalizer wasn’t enough for Arsenal, as Brighton’s draw handed the WSL title to Manchester City...

Manchester City secured the Women’s Super League title on Wednesday, ending a 10-year wait after Arsenal’s 1-1 draw at Brighton ended the Gunners’ slim hopes of catching them.

City sit first on 52 points with one game left to play. Arsenal required victories in all four remaining fixtures to overtake them, but Brighton’s result confirmed the championship will head to Manchester rather than London.

Arsenal arrived at Brighton on Wednesday with a steep challenge after their Champions League run ended in a semi-final defeat to OL Lyonnes last weekend, and the task grew tougher when Fuka Tsunoda put Brighton ahead just before half-time.

Frida Maanum equalized for the Gunners in the 60th minute, and although Arsenal pushed hard in the closing stages, they couldn’t find the breakthrough goal they needed.
