Mikel Arteta is urging his Arsenal team to channel their frustration into motivation as they face Sporting CP in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. The Gunners are looking to bounce back from back-to-back defeats, including a 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the League Cup final and a 2-1 upset to Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Arteta emphasized the importance of learning from their mistakes and using them to improve. “We are very clear what happened and why it happened. This is football,” he said. The Arsenal boss is confident that his team can overcome their recent setbacks and perform well in the Champions League.

Key Players and Injuries

Arsenal will be without Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber, who are ruled out due to injuries. However, Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, and Leandro Trossard are available for selection.

“We have to have ‌some perspective on how difficult what we have done up until now has been,” Arteta told reporters on Monday. “Feel the pain, use it to improve.

“We ‌are very clear what happened and why it happened. This is football.”

Arsenal's manager Mikel Arteta is urging his team to stay calm and focused after being knocked out of two domestic cups, emphasizing that clear thinking is crucial as they gear up for their Champions League quarter-final against Sporting CP. "I think what you have to be is clear, understand why it happened, and be better," Arteta said, highlighting the need for his players to learn from their mistakes and move forward.

Arteta's side has been hit by back-to-back defeats, losing to Manchester City in the League Cup final and Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals, but he's adamant that they can bounce back stronger. He's encouraged his players to use their frustration and disappointment as fuel to improve, saying “Feel the pain, use it to improve.”

“I think what you have to be is clear, understand why it happened,” he said. “And when you understand that, be better, and that is what we have to do.”

Arsenal is dealing with injuries, with Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze, and Jurrien Timber missing the first leg against Sporting CP. Arteta's hoping they'll be back for the weekend, though. On the flip side, Gabriel Magalhaes, Declan Rice, and Leandro Trossard are training and available for selection.

Team Prep

Arteta's squad took a slight hit with three key players missing, but he's optimistic about getting them back soon. With Magalhaes, Rice, and Trossard fit, Arsenal's still got firepower for the Champions League clash.

Sporting Aiming to Seize Initiative

Arsenal faces a tough test in Sporting CP, who've been unbeaten at home in Europe this season. The Portuguese champions are looking to take control of the tie, and midfielder Maxi Araujo is downplaying Arsenal's chances, saying they're not the favorites.

Araujo's Warning

Araujo shrugged off Arsenal's chances, emphasizing Sporting's strength at home. “They're a great team, but we're playing at home,” he said.

“There are no favourites in this play-off,” he told reporters. “They are playing well, we are too.”

Sporting manager Rui Borges is unfazed by Arsenal's recent losses, saying it doesn't change their approach. “The fact that they've lost two games in a row means little,” he said, emphasizing Sporting's focus on their own game.

“No, I don't believe in that and great teams always want ‌to win,” Borges told reporters. “They will be more focused, willing to show their collective individual capacity and so I think it will make it more difficult for us.”

Fixtures Ahead

The second leg is on April 15th at the Emirates Stadium. Before that, Arsenal hosts Bournemouth on Saturday, looking to keep their Premier League title hopes alive.

Title Chase Becomes Focus

Arsenal's focus shifts to the Premier League, hosting Bournemouth this weekend. Can they bounce back from recent cup exits and keep pace with the leaders?
