Coco Gauff, Mirra Andreeva and Iga Swiatek all advanced at the Stuttgart Open. Gauff faces Muchova next, while Andreeva extended her clay win streak to six.

American Gauff, also playing her first clay match of the season, was broken twice as Samsonova jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first set. But the world number three hit back to take the next four games. Samsonova broke again to move 5-4 ahead, before Gauff reeled off the next three games to clinch the set.

A confident Gauff then won five straight games in the second set to book a quarter-final clash with Karolina Muchova.

“It’s a surface I both love and hate,” Gauff said about playing on clay.

Russian world number nine Andreeva, who won the Linz Open last weekend before knocking out Stuttgart Open defending champion Jelena Ostapenko on Wednesday, beat American Parks to claim her sixth straight clay-court win this year.

Parks led 6-5 before 18-year-old Andreeva fought back to take the first set in a tiebreak. The American, who had seven double faults to Andreeva’s two, also went a break up in the second set but couldn’t hold the lead.

“It's fun when you hit some good ones, but also not fun when you're falling on the ground. But today I didn't fall, so that's a plus.”

Polish third seed Swiatek, who is chasing a fifth French Open title this year, opened her clay season with a 6-2 6-3 win over Laura Siegemund in the last 16 on Wednesday.

Andreeva has won two of her three previous meetings with Swiatek, all played on hardcourt.

“Obviously, this is clay indoors, so it's still a little bit different, but yeah, I'm kind of excited to see how this match will go on clay court for the first time,” Andreeva said ‌about Friday's clash.
