Serie A: Genoa Come From Behind to Beat Pisa as Colombo Strikes Winner
Daniele De Rossi’s depleted Genoa rallied to win 2-1 at bottom-club Pisa with goals from Ekhator and Colombo to move clear of danger.
Colombo buried a late penalty after Ekhator’s rocket as Genoa overturned Pisa’s lead to grab a 2-1 win and edge toward Serie A survival...
Genoa sealed a comeback win away to Pisa thanks to Jeff Ekhator and Lorenzo Colombo, all but securing their Serie A survival for another season.
It was a big chance for Daniele De Rossi to pull clear of the danger zone after a crucial 2-1 win over Sassuolo. But that fiery match cost him Ruslan Malinovskyi, Morten Frendrup and Mikael Ellertsson to suspension, while Maxwel Cornet, Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Benjamin Siegrist were out injured. Pisa stayed bottom and were without Marius Marin plus the usual Daniel Denoon.

Tommaso Baldanzi fired just wide from the edge of the box early for Genoa, but Pisa went ahead by exploiting the Grifone’s familiar weakness at set plays.
Samuele Angori whipped in a corner for defender Simone Canestrelli to power a header into the far bottom corner, with VAR dismissing claims of a push on Stefano Sabelli.
It should have been 2-0 moments later when Pisa hit Genoa on the break from a corner, but Angori couldn’t beat Justin Bijlow one-on-one.
Aaron Martin drove a promising free kick into the wall, but Genoa leveled from a throw-in. Baldanzi linked with Lorenzo Colombo and teed up Jeff Ekhator, who rifled a left-footed rocket into the roof of the net from just inside the box.
Genoa almost completed the turnaround right before half-time when Colombo curled a fine effort from a tight angle on the right that clipped the far top corner of the crossbar. Their frustration doubled as the officials missed Canestrelli’s deflection.
Colombo threatened again after the break, latching onto Baldanzi’s disguised pass to force a sharp save from Semper at his near post.
Canestrelli lost his footing trying to close down Baldanzi in the box and threw out an arm to block the shot, conceding an inevitable penalty. The Grifone had missed four of their last eight Serie A penalties this season, but Colombo buried a perfect left-foot strike into the top corner.

Leo Ostigard brought down Stefano Moreo just outside the area and Bijlow was forced into a big stop to deny Michel Aebischer at his near post, while Semper got down well to keep out Colombo’s angled drive at the other end.
