Hacken continue strong Allsvenskan starts

Hacken beat GAIS 2-1 and AIK edged Kalmar 1-0 to move to seven points in the Allsvenskan, while Malmo captain Pontus Jansson is out for the season.

Hacken and AIK stayed unbeaten with narrow home wins in round three. GAIS and Kalmar remain pointless. Malmo lose Jansson to ACL injury...

Hacken and AIK both stayed unbeaten and moved to seven points in the Allsvenskan thanks to narrow home wins that wrapped up round three of the new season.

Hacken Edge GAIS 2-1

Hacken climbed to second in the table with a second Gothenburg derby win in as many matchdays, handing bottom-placed GAIS a third straight defeat. GAIS had the best opening-half chance when Robert Thorkelsson headed against the post.

The hosts broke through in the 51st minute when a corner was punched to the edge of the box, where Abdoulaye Doumbia met it with a deft cushioned volley to loop the ball back over the keeper’s head.

But the Mackerels were denied their first point of the season when Hacken hit back 10 minutes from time. Mikkel Rygaard’s inswinging cross from the right was turned in on the volley by Gustav Lindgren from close range.

Only Sirius, on nine points, sit above Hacken in the standings, while GAIS remain one of just two sides still without a point.

AIK Sink Kalmar 1-0

Newly promoted Kalmar are the only other side yet to register a point, leaving Strawberry Arena empty-handed after a narrow loss to AIK.

The hosts relied on an early big stop from Christoffer Nordfeldt to deny Marius Soderback and avoid falling behind. That proved key midway through the half when his opposite number, Jakob Kindberg, gifted AIK the perfect chance to score.

The Kalmar keeper spilled Zadok Yohanna’s cross and, scrambling to recover, brought down Bersant Celina for a penalty. Johan Hove stepped up and buried the spot-kick for his first goal of the season.

In a game short on chances, one goal was enough for Gnaget to stay level with Hacken on seven points.

Season Over for Malmo Skipper Jansson

Malmo fans were dealt a blow today as it was confirmed captain Pontus Jansson will miss the rest of the season with an ACL injury.

The former Sweden centre-back came off late in MFF’s win at Djurgarden after an awkward collision with Leon Hien, and will be a huge loss to their push to reclaim the Allsvenskan title.
