Patrick Agyemang suffers serious injury, US coach Mauricio Pochettino faces World Cup squad dilemma...

US striker Patrick Agyemang's World Cup dreams are shattered after suffering a serious Achilles tendon injury. The 25-year-old was stretchered off the field during Derby County's 2-0 win over Stoke City on Monday, and his club has confirmed he'll miss the tournament.

Agyemang, who has scored six goals in 14 internationals, was visibly emotional as he left the pitch. Derby County will provide him with top-notch medical care, but a recovery timeline hasn't been set. This injury is a huge blow to the US team, especially with the World Cup just around the corner.

“The ‌club will provide Patrick with the highest level of medical care and rehabilitation throughout his recovery,” the club said in a statement.

“As a result of this injury, Patrick will unfortunately miss this summer's FIFA World Cup. At this stage it would be wrong ‌to put a timeline on his recovery.”

Agyemang's got six goals in 14 caps for the US, and he played in both March friendlies under coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino's got till May 30 to name his World Cup squad, and the stakes are high: the US faces Paraguay, Australia, and Turkey in Group D. The tournament kicks off June 11, co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico.
