Sidney Crosby passes Wayne Gretzky for most playoff goals vs Flyers and adds two points as Penguins beat Philadelphia...
The Pittsburgh Penguins avoided a sweep with a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 4 on Saturday night.
After Game 3’s 25 penalties, Game 4 was far more disciplined with just eight total - three each in the first and second periods, and two in the third.
Pittsburgh won despite being outshot 27-21. The Penguins went 1-for-3 on the power play and killed off all three Flyers man advantages.
The series now shifts back to Pittsburgh for Game 5 on April 27.
Slow Start Before Crosby Strikes
The first period started slowly, but Pittsburgh broke through to open the scoring.
Sidney Crosby netted his first goal of the playoffs to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead, assisted by Erik Karlsson.
Crosby Sets Playoff Record vs Flyers
The goal was Crosby’s 16th career playoff tally against Philadelphia, moving him past Wayne Gretzky and teammate Evgeni Malkin for the most all-time versus the Flyers.
It was also Crosby’s 203rd career playoff point, passing Edmonton’s Jari Kurri for third-most with a single franchise. Only Wayne Gretzky (252, Edmonton) and Mark Messier (215, Edmonton) have more.

Gretzky and Messier are also the only players ahead of Crosby in playoff go-ahead goals factored into, with Gretzky at 115, Messier at 88, and Crosby now at 80.
The Penguins wasted no time adding to their lead to start the second period.
Rickard Rakell scored his first of the playoffs just one minute into the period after Flyers goalie Dan Vladar misplayed the puck behind his own net, putting Pittsburgh up 2-0.

But Pittsburgh restored the two-goal lead during 4-on-4 play just four minutes into the third period.
Earlier goal scorers Crosby and Rakell each picked up an assist on Kris Letang’s goal to make it 3-1.
The goal was Letang’s 24th career playoff tally and gave Crosby his 68th multi-point playoff game, third-most all-time behind Wayne Gretzky (108) and Mark Messier (77).

Two minutes later, the Flyers pulled within one again.
This time Travis Konecny scored his first of the playoffs to make it 3-2, assisted by Christian Dvorak and Travis Sanheim for their third and first points of the postseason.
But it wasn’t enough, as Pittsburgh’s Connor Dewar sealed it with an empty-net goal in the final minute - his first career playoff tally - to make it 4-2.
