NBA action: Oklahoma City Thunder's big win over LA Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers clinch Eastern Conference playoff spot. Luka Doncic injury, Thunder's 43-point blowout, and Cavs secure playoff spot.

“We got off to a good start. We made shots early but most importantly we got stops defensively...”

The Oklahoma City Thunder dominated the Los Angeles Lakers 139-96, with Luka Doncic exiting early due to a left hamstring injury. The injury occurred midway through the third quarter, dashing hopes for a thrilling matchup between MVP contenders Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Doncic.

The Thunder's blowout win was fueled by strong performances from Gilgeous-Alexander (28 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists) and Isaiah Joe (20 points off the bench). Luguentz Dort led the charge early, scoring 14 points in the opening quarter. The Thunder's 43-point margin of victory was their largest over the Lakers this season.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers secured a playoff spot with a 118-111 win over the Golden State Warriors. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with 25 points, while Max Strus added 24 points. The Cavs are now fourth in the Eastern Conference.

Luka Doncic, the league's top scorer with 33.8 points per game, was clearly emotional as he limped off the court. He'd just pulled up in pain while driving to the basket, leaving fans worried.

Doncic, who's been on fire with 40+ points in his last three games, will undergo an MRI scan on Friday, according to Lakers coach JJ Redick.

Lakers superstar LeBron James expressed concern: “At this point, at this juncture of the season, it's the last thing you want to see.”

The Lakers' four-game winning streak came to a brutal end, shattering their momentum as they try to secure the third seed in the West. Their 43-point loss was a harsh reality check, just six points shy of their worst defeat in team history - a 49-point thrashing by Dallas in January 2017.

LeBron James downplayed the Lakers' loss, saying “Nothing is rattled,” it's just one game. Meanwhile, the Thunder's bench came through big, helping them build a 44-21 lead after the first quarter, despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's slow start.

The Thunder's strong performance continued, with Gilgeous-Alexander finishing with 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists. Luka Doncic's injury was a major blow to the Lakers, and he'll undergo an MRI scan on Friday to determine the extent of his hamstring injury.

Luguentz Dort was on fire in the first quarter, going 4-for-4 from three and scoring 14 points, while Oklahoma City's defense forced the Lakers into eight turnovers, leading to 14 Thunder points. The Thunder continued to dominate, building an 82-51 halftime lead.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander praised both teams' efforts, saying, “They were obviously playing really good basketball coming in here, and so were we,” after Oklahoma City's fourth straight win.

“We just wanted to put our best foot forward and see where we stood. We did so.

“We got off to a good start. We made shots early but most importantly we got stops defensively. We started the right way and then just rode the rollercoaster the rest of the game.”

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander put up an impressive 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Isaiah Joe contributed 20 points off the bench, helping the Thunder dominate the Lakers 139-96. This win improved Oklahoma City's league-best record to 61-16, solidifying their position as Western Conference leaders.

Luguentz Dort had a hot start, scoring 14 points in the first quarter, and Jalen Williams nearly triple-doubled with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists. The Thunder's strong performance was marked by their 53.9% shooting from the field and 45.2% from 3-point range.

Austin Reaves topscored for the Lakers with 15 points, playing through back pain, while LeBron James added 13 points in 26 minutes. The Thunder maintained their two-game lead over the San Antonio Spurs, who beat the LA Clippers 118-99 without Victor Wembanyama, who's dealing with a right ankle issue.

The Spurs' win keeps them in the mix for a top spot in the West, while the Lakers face uncertainty with Luka Doncic's hamstring injury.

Cavaliers Secure Playoff Spot with 118-111 Win Over Warriors

The Cleveland Cavaliers have clinched a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs with a thrilling 118-111 victory over the Golden State Warriors. Donovan Mitchell led the charge with 25 points, while Max Strus contributed 24 points, including crucial late-game three-pointers. Jarrett Allen also had a standout performance, recording a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Mitchell's 25 points were complemented by James Harden's 19 points and five assists, while Evan Mobley added 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Cavaliers' balanced attack, with five starters scoring in double figures, proved too much for the Warriors.

Warriors' Struggles Continue

Despite strong performances from Gui Santos and Brandin Podziemski, who both scored 25 points, the Warriors couldn't overcome their shooting woes, making just 27.3% of their three-point attempts. The loss drops Golden State to 36-41, solidifying their 10th-place spot in the Western Conference.

Gui Santos and Brandin Podziemski led the Warriors' scoring with 25 points apiece, but it wasn't enough to get past the Cavs. Stephen Curry sat out again due to injury.

The Detroit Pistons edged the Minnesota Timberwolves 113-108, keeping their bid for the top East seed alive. The Celtics are breathing down their necks, though.

Daniss Jenkins led the Pistons with 26 points, while Jalen Duren contributed 22 points and 14 rebounds. Cade Cunningham remains out, recovering from a collapsed lung.

Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was a late scratch due to right knee pain and illness, adding to the team's injury woes. He'd just returned from a six-game absence.
