Liverpool Striker Ekitike to miss rest of season, World Cup with achilles injury...
Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike will miss the rest of the season and the World Cup after rupturing his Achilles tendon, the Premier League club confirmed Thursday.
The 23-year-old France international went off in the first half of Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield on Tuesday after slipping on the turf. Liverpool lost 2-0 on the night to exit 4-0 on aggregate.
Scans have since confirmed the extent of the forward’s injury, with Liverpool stating Ekitike will be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
The club added that the injury also rules him out of this year’s World Cup, after France manager Didier Deschamps said Wednesday the striker would miss the finals in North America.
Liverpool FC can confirm Hugo Ekitike has sustained a serious Achilles injury.
