Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg was awarded the 2025-2026 NBA Rookie of the Year on Monday.

The 19-year-old secured 56 first-place votes, edging Charlotte Hornets guard Kon Knueppel, who finished second with 44.

Flagg is only the third Maverick to earn the honor, joining Jason Kidd in 1994-1995 and Luka Doncic in 2018-2019. At 19, he’s also the second-youngest recipient ever, trailing only 18-year-old LeBron James.

As the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Flagg delivered a historic first season in Dallas. He made history as the first rookie ever to score 50+ points in a game, and the first teenager to hit that mark.

Flagg posted 40+ points in four games, setting a new record for most by a teenager and passing LeBron James. He also set the rookie record with 11 games of 30+ points, breaking Carmelo Anthony’s mark of 10.

He became just the second rookie in league history to lead his team in total points at 1,473, rebounds at 466, assists at 316, and steals at 84.

The only other rookie to do it? Michael Jordan in 1984-1985.

The Newport, Maine native closed the 2025-2026 season with averages of 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over 70 games.
