Worried Liverpool boss Arne Slot admits Hugo Ekitike injury 'looks really bad...'

Liverpool manager Arne Slot said he’d be shocked if Hugo Ekitike plays again this season after the forward was stretchered off during their Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain.

Ekitike’s serious-looking injury made a rough night even worse for the English champions, as Ousmane Dembele’s brace clinched a 2-0 win at Anfield for the holders, who moved into the semi-finals 4-0 on aggregate.

The ex-PSG striker collapsed to the turf clutching his lower right leg, with a suspected ruptured Achilles that could also rule him out of France’s World Cup squad.

“It looks really bad, but difficult for me to say how bad,” said Slot.

“Tomorrow, we will investigate this further. Let's see, but it doesn't look good.”

Slot had started Ekitike up front with Alexander Isak, who was making his first appearance since breaking his leg in December.

Injuries have been a huge factor in a dreadful season for the Reds, who sit fifth in the Premier League and will finish the campaign without a trophy.

“Losing a player is something we have had many times this season, but it is especially hard for him because you never want to be injured, especially at this time of the season,” added Slot.

“The good thing is Alex is back.”
